Everything you need to know before your visit, including what to bring, how to prepare for each exam and how results are delivered.
What to bring
- A signed physician requisition for your exam
- Your valid Ontario health card
- Any preparation steps your provider asked you to follow
- Prior imaging reports if requested by your physician
Preparation by exam
Bone Mineral Density
Service details- Please do not take any calcium supplements within 24 hours of your exam. If you have had a diagnostic test with contrast dye performed within 2 weeks of your exam, please call to rebook your appointment.
- Bring a list of any vitamins or medications you are taking to your appointment.
General Ultrasound
Service details- Abdominal ultrasound: Please do not eat 6 hours prior to the exam time. Continue taking your home medications as prescribed by your physician. Diabetic patients should consult with their physicians and request an earlier appointment.
- Abdominal and pelvic combined ultrasound: Do not eat 6 hours prior to the exam time. Drink up to 1 liter (32 oz) of water 1 hour prior to your appointment time. Do not empty your bladder until the exam is completed. If you are beyond 28 weeks pregnant, you do not have to fill your bladder.
- Obstetrics, pelvis only, kidney, and bladder ultrasounds: Do not eat 6 hours prior to the exam time. Drink up to 1 liter (32 oz) of water 1 hour prior to your appointment time. Do not empty your bladder until the exam is completed. If you are beyond 28 weeks pregnant, you do not have to fill your bladder.
- All other ultrasound exams: For all other ultrasound exams other than the ones specified above, there is no special exam preparation required.
Obstetric Ultrasound

- Do not empty your bladder until the exam is completed.
- If you are beyond 28 weeks pregnant, you do not have to fill your bladder.
Vascular Ultrasound
Service details- There is no special exam preparation required for vascular ultrasound.
Mammography
Service details- Please do not use any deodorant, powder, or cream on the chest/breast/armpit on the day of your exam. Otherwise you can follow your normal routine — eat, drink, and take your regular medications.
- You will need to undress from the waist up for the imaging procedure. A medical gown or drape will be provided.
- Please tell your healthcare provider if you're breastfeeding, pregnant, or think you may be pregnant. They may recommend the best time to get a mammogram or suggest starting with an ultrasound.
X-Ray
Service details- No preparation is required. Please wear light clothing without zippers or metal.
- No appointment required — come to the clinic when you are ready to receive your exam.

Most appointments are scheduled within a week. A physician requisition is required.
